The most common cause of hair loss is a hereditary condition called male-pattern baldness or female-pattern baldness. It usually occurs gradually and un-predictable patterns. Typically a receding hairline and bald spots occur in men and thinning hair occurs in women.
Depending on what is causing the hair loss, it can come on suddenly or gradually. Some types of hair loss are temporary and others are permanent. It can be the result of hereditary, hormonal changes, medical conditions, medical treatments or medications.

Male pattern baldness follows a classical and well-defined pattern of hair loss, which begins with a receding hairline and thinning of the hair at the crown of the head.
End result may be partial or complete baldness.
Chemotheorpy
Normally, your cells grow and die in a controlled way. Cancer cells keep forming without control. Chemotherapy is drug therapy that can kill these cells or stop them from multiplying. However, it can also harm healthy cells, which causes side effects.
During chemotherapy you may have no side effects or just a few. The kinds of side effects you have depend on the type and dose of chemotherapy you recieve. Side effects vary, but common ones are nausea, vomiting, tiredness, pain weak nails, dry skin and hair loss. Healthy cells usually recover after chemotherapy, so most side effects gradually go away.
Alopecia

Alopecia is the medical term for baldness; there are various types of alopecia; Alopecia Areata is a condition that causes a person's hair to fall out. It is an autoimmune disease; that is, the person's immune system attacks their own body.

Trichotillomania (trick-o-til-o-MAY-nee-ah) is a disorder that causes people to pull out the hair from their scalp, eyelashes, eyebrows, as well as other body areas resulting in noticeable bald patches.
